Most of us fear police now. There are some great ones, but more and more
often, police seem not to understand clearly what their jobs are. Most
of their authority comes from the U.S. Constitution. It seems now they
are not properly trained. When the police no longer protect and defend
the U.S. Constitution, they are no more than thugs. There are good cops
as I said. I used to train them. Acts like these would not have been
tolerated on my watch, but these officers would have been trained
different, no, trained better. Discretion, discretion, and discretion.
I was taught to respect police officers and my father would accept nothing less. I still believe most of what he said.
I wanted to serve my country and I was a "pollyannish" type of young man. I was taught by some of the best. What was infused in me was something that stuck in me. Authority is a double-edged sword. When it is bestowed upon someone it has to be treated with kid gloves."With authority comes great responsibility." Absolutely!!! No rewards are given from man for handling this tremendous responsibility with forethought and as much altruism one can muster. Unfortunately times are changing and with horrible and frightening results.
If the Constitution and Posse Comitatus are no longer drilled into the framework of our policemen and women, we will soon have much to fear. Think about it...Here's a hypothetical: You live in a small city. Someone doesn't like you, for whatever reason. You're lying in bed about to fall asleep and you hear a loud banging on your door, and you answer it. There's an intimidating fellow at your door who appears to have adrenalin already pumping through his veins. He tells you "step out of your house and stand over there by that tree." You're confused, wiping the sleep from your eyes, as the aforementioned juggernaut tries to grab you. Sir, what is going on? He says, "move or I will move you." Use your imagination to play this scenario out. Odds are likely most endings will be bad if not tragic.
There is no war, nor should there ever be one between law-abiding citizens and those who are hired to protect them. Always be respectful. Be assertive, not aggressive. Not only are law enforcement troops in this country sworn to protect and defend the Constitution, but we should all be reminded we have a responsibility to protect the God Given rights of each and every American Citizen.
